The town of Sorrento and the surrounding area have a wide range of hotels, which fall into several categories. There are the establishments which cater for package holiday-makers, many of them British – these hotels may have swimming pools but can be large complexes without much character or Italian atmosphere. Then there are the smaller and smarter hotels popular with independent travellers – some of these too, have pools, but others are more typical Italian hotels with fewer facilities. Then there are the cheaper hotels and B&Bs which are good places to stay for budget travellers who are stopping off in Sorrento for tourism and sightseeing – the sort of accommodation where you spend your nights but don’t plan leisurely summer holidays lazing around the hotel’s public spaces. There are quite a few ‘Grand Hotels’ and four and five-star hotels in Sorrento, although as you might guess from the reasonable prices, these are not necessarily the most luxurious you’ll find in Italy, where you usually get what you pay for. Below we provide a wide selection, from a surprisingly-cheap five-star hotel to a few economy options. Read the hotel’s information pages and the reviews from previous guests to be sure you are choosing a hotel which will suit your holiday plans. If location is important to you, check the location maps provided and read past guests’ comments relating to transport and convenience.

Grand Hotel La Favorita *****
A handsome five-star in the historic centre of Sorrento with classy decor,a roof-top bar and swimming pool, and affordable pries. I’ve stayed there and liked it a lot.

Hotel Maison La Minervetta ****
This is a really special hotel on the cliffs in Sorrento. La Minervetta has just twelve stylish rooms, huge windows and amazing views over the sea and the Bay of Naples. It’s the sort of boutique hotel that provides guests with some special holiday memories, and it’s a world away from the area’s more traditional hotels.

Hotel Parco dei Principi *****
Hotel Parco dei Principi is just outside Sorrento, with views over the Bay of Naples. It is one of several five-star hotels in the popular resort. The smart 1960s building (a good choice for architecture buffs) has gardens and a private beach and pool. There are sometimes very good rates available online through the links below.

Hotel Il Nido ***
Il Nido is a three-star hotel outside Sorrento, with fine views and a shuttle service into town. Despite being away from the heart of town (or maybe because of it?) the hotel is extremely popular. Both the family-run hotel and its restaurant are highly praised by guests.

Hotel Savoia **
Two-star family-run hotel close to Piazza Tasso with fifteen rooms. The location is convenient and prices are good value. Service is friendly and past guests actually praise the breakfast – which is most unusual for Italy.

Hotel Mignon Meublè **
The Hotel Mignon Meublè is another affordable two-star option. Quiet but central, it’s a decent and friendly place to stay. Don’t expect too many luxuries, and do read past guests’ opinions of the acommodation: soundproofing and breakfast come in for some criticism.

Hotel Nice *
A cheap one-star option if you’re really on a tight budget, the Hotel Nice is convenient for travellers as it’s close to the railway station. Rooms on the main street are noisy; those at the back are quieter. This is a typically basic Italian budget hotel so don’t expect anything too fancy: the main advantages are the location and cost.
