On the whole, we believe that you get the best deal if you plan your own holiday, booking your hotel and flights online. The rise in budget airlines means that package holidays are no longer as competitive as they once were. However, occasionally you may find a better deal through a holiday firm - especially if you are looking for a last-minute bargain in a popular destination like the Italian Lakes, Sorrento or Sardinia. As well as price, there are other advantages to booking a package: you will have better cover if things go wrong and someone else will make all the arrangements. Since this site concentrates on self-planned holidays, we don't offer a detailed guide to package deals available, but here are some places to begin:

They are especially good at short-notice getaways, or themed breaks. Their Italian destinations range from four-star hotels in Venice to B&Bs in Sicily. Booking online is secure and easy.
	Thomson Holidays offer extra savings if you book online. The beach destinations they offer in Italy include Sicily, the Neapolitan Riviera and the Venetian Riviera. They also offer a range of lakes and mountains holidays in Italy, and villas in interesting destinations such as northern Lazio.
	One of the best-known names in travel, Thomas Cook offer various packages to Italy including some good offers on city breaks.
